Summer fun at S. George's Voluntary Academy, Derby
S. George's Voluntary Academy, Derby, recently opened the school gates to a day of family fun. It had been seven years since the school last held a summer fair, so lots of planning went into this year's Family Fun day to ensure it was a success. It was decided that it would be a Family Fun day, which would enable local families to enjoy a day out that was affordable and lots of fun.
With fantastic weather on the day, the fields and school were full with inflatables, welly-throwing, bouncy castles, a disco tent, water fights, teachers in the stocks, magic shows, raffles, local community police and competitions galore. With so much to do, most of the families stayed the whole day and, to keep them fed and watered, there was lots to eat, with BBQ stands, ice-cream, cake and Coffee Café, Mocktails, food from around the world and vegetarian food-stalls – there really was something for everyone.
Mrs. Racheal Snowdon, Poole Head-teacher, Mrs. Helen Janeusewski TA and Mrs. Karan O’Connor, representing the Parish and Governors, had held regular weekly meetings from January to ensure everything would go well. On the day, all the teachers, staff and lots of parents volunteered to run stalls.
Mrs. Rachael Snowdon-Poole said, "What an absolutely fantastic day; we have been overwhelmed by the support and attendance from school families, parish and the local Community, we have had over 650 through the gates today and it has exceeded all our expectations. It’s important as a school to be part of our local community of Littleover and put something back into it; I am immensely proud to be the Head-teacher of such a vibrant community school and the support and donation from parents and parish today is amazing." We asked, "Are you going to do this again?" "Definitely!" So, we look forward to Summer 2019.
The school raised cover £3000 pounds, which is going towards RE resources.
