Opening churches – Private prayer and public worship

The Government is allowing churches to open for private, individual prayer. For a church to do this, the parish has to fulfil various conditions and take certain measures to keep people safe. Details of parishes that are open, along with opening times and day, are on the home page.

Priests looking to open for private prayer can get full details of the Guidance and Requirements from the Vicar Generals or the Diocesan Property office, but the Volunteer Steward documents and the Private PrayerSession checklist can be downloaded here, as multiple copies of these pages will be required.

The Prime Minister announced that Places of Worship can hold services from 4th July 2020, however there are still additional regulations that need to be met. The Diocese will announce further details about church services as soon as full details are received and plans can be made.
