Beauvale pilgrimage, 2018
Every year, Catholics gather together on the site of the ruins of the old medieval priory at Beauvale, to honour the Catholic martyrs of Nottinghamshire. The priory was established in the fourteenth century and given over to the Order of the Carthusians of S. Bruno, but was sadly dissolved, when the monks refused to sign the Oath of Supremacy that declared the English king head of the English Church. Discover more about Beauvale Priory here, and here about S. John Houghton, who with another English Carthusian from Beauvale, S. Robert Lawrence, was arrested by Thomas Cromwell in 1535 and tortured and killed for their allegiance to Rome. The following are images from the visit this year, which took place on the sixth of May.
