The Bishop at S. Mary's primary school, Derby
Bishop Patrick McKinney visited St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby, on Tuesday April 27th, to bless the school’s new temporary home, along with parish priests from St Mary’s Church.
Pupils and staff have moved into St James’s House in Derby for up to two years following a fire which destroyed their school building on Broadway in October 2020.
Since the arson attack in October 2020, the school had been split across two sites, at Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy in Duffield Road and the Diocesan Centre and Christ the King Church in Mackworth.
Amanda Greaves, Executive Head at St Mary’s, said she was thrilled to have the school back together under one roof.
She said: “To be back together again just means everything. Staff, children and families have had to endure so much since the fire and as we are a close community, to be reunited just means so much.”
