First Holy Communion at S. George and Holy Spirit, Derby
Many parishes across the Deanery of Derby are welcoming children in their parish communities to prepare for First Holy Communion and S. George and Holy Spirit in Derby are, too. Over the last few months, the thirty-two children have enjoyed many varied lessons delivered by their Catechist, using crafts, gardening, music and drama to help facilitate and engage the children in their learning experience.
This year they have chose to support the Rainbows Hospice and the Derby Refugee Project as their fund-raising charities, and they will have a film night, a disco and a cake sale to raise funds, in the coming weeks. Each week, all the children and their families attend weekly Mass and Canon Alan and Father Peter ensure that they support the learning with relevant, child-focused homilies. The whole parish is looking forward to the First Holy Communion Masses, which take place over the weekend of the 11th and the 12th of May.
Thank you to Mrs. Mooney, Mrs. O’Connor, Mrs. Love, Mrs. MacNamara and Mrs. Scott for their help in ensuring that these children encounter the love of the Lord and that they help them to have a life-long relationship with him.
