Ahead of Thursday’s local elections, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales encourages all to vote as ‘another way in which we exercise responsibility for the good of society.

He addresses a special message to young people who may be eligible to vote for  the first time, urging them to play their part and use their vote, naming the local elections relevant to his diocese of Westminster.

Here in Nottingham Diocese, there are a number of positions we have an opportunity to vote for, perhaps most notably voting for the first ever Mayor for the East Midlands for residents of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Nottingham City an Derby City. Across other counties Police and Crime Commissioner elections are on the ballots, and of course many local council elections.

Cardinal Nichols asks all the faithful to think carefully and prayerfully as we cast our vote in these elections.
