Diocesan Catechist Formation Courses

The new Diocesan Catechist formation pathways have been very well received and we will be running them again this academic year as fully online courses. There are three courses to choose from that work as standalone courses but also link together too.

Encounter Catechesis - this four-session course is ideal for those looking to get the foundations of catechesis right. This course is based on key questions to consider when we run any type of catechesis - What is the Good News? What is Catechesis? What do I need to know about safeguarding? What resources are there and how do I run a session?

Discipleship Catechesis - this course is six sessions and is a crash course in the fundamentals of Catholic belief. It is aimed to give you a broad knowledge of Catholic theology and how to present it.

Missionary Catechesis - this course is also four sessions and explores whys to advance your parish catechesis, to go beyond sacramental preparation and to adapt catechesis for those with special or additional needs.

The cost for Encounter and Missionary Catechesis is £25 each and Discipleship Catechesis is £50, but if you sign up for all three you can save 15% at £85 for all three courses. It is normal for parishes to cover the cost of Catechist training so please speak to your parish priest about funding. See our flyer here.

The Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies, a nationally recognised course, continues throughout the academic year with rolling enrolment (join at any point). In January we will be moving venue to be based at St Hugh's Catholic Church, Borrowash, Derbyshire.
