The Catholic Diocese of Nottingham has an exciting opportunity for someone with an interest in issues of social justice, environmental sustainability and community engagement.

Is this you? Do you have strong project management and communication skills, and a flexible approach to managing a varied portfolio of work? If so, we would like to hear from you!

Caritas is the diocesan outreach department, supporting faith-inspired social action, work for justice and peace and Care of Creation in Catholic parishes across the East Midlands. Its aim is to foster confident, resourceful, outward-facing Catholic communities which make an impact for the Gospel in their neighbourhoods and wider world, especially for the benefit of those on the margins of society.

The department’s principal activities are:

1. Supporting parishes in developing local projects which act on mission opportunities and social needs.

2. Resourcing lay people to play their part in mission, pastoral care, charitable outreach, and advocacy for justice, peace and care of creation.

3. Providing a programme of training and support for the foregoing, with contributions from across the Curia, the diocesan head office staff.

4. Enabling parishes to care for the environment and attain net-zero carbon emissions from their operations.

5. Convening the Mission Support Team which co-ordinates how the diocesan strategy for mission is planned and implemented.

Responsible to the Program Manager for Social Outreach, the Outreach Development Worker role is a varied, hands-on, project-focused post to enable the department to make an impact across all these activities. The successful person will provide community development support to an evolving portfolio of local projects, lead on delivery of some externally funded projects (and provide a supporting role in others), and build the capacity of parishes for outreach across the diocese.

Through membership of the Caritas Social Action Network of England and Wales the diocese is a part of the worldwide humanitarian network of Caritas.

The role is for 22.5 hours per week, salary is £12 per hour. Out-of-hours working, including weekend/evening working, will be necessary on occasion with TOIL in return.
