Role: Parish Bookkeeper
Salary: £27-£30k p.a. (depending upon experience)
Contract Term: 2-year Fixed Term, but with the provisional intention that the post will then transfer into one or more DSHs.
Based at: St Hugh’s House, 1 Castle Quay, Nottingham, NG7 1FW. Post holder will be required to work at any other DCO location.
Line Manager: Diocesan Accountant
Purpose of the Role:
The Parish Bookkeeper is responsible for supporting parishes across the Diocese of Nottingham with the maintenance of accurate accounting and Gift Aid records in line with diocesan requirements.
This new role will provide a professional bookkeeping service that parishes can draw upon directly. Where parishes do not engage with the service and fall behind in meeting essential obligations—such as entering data into OPAS, completing bank reconciliations, and administering Gift Aid—the Parish Bookkeeper will be deployed to clear backlogs and restore compliance.
The role requires strong technical bookkeeping skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with parish priests, administrators, and volunteers.
Nottingham Diocese is in the initial phase of introducing Deanery Service Hubs (DSHs). These will support regional groups of parishes in a range of areas. The roll-out is expected to take place over the next 2-3 years. It is envisioned that eventually this will include financial administration and so ultimately the Parish Bookkeeper role will transition to becoming part of one or more DSHs.
