Most Catholics in the Diocese know the rhythm of a parish priest's life. Fewer have heard, first-hand, what it means to be called into religious life — to leave behind the familiar and answer something harder to explain.

Father John Church OP, a Dominican friar from Leicester, will join the Diocese for an evening of reflection and conversation as part of the ongoing Go, Make Disciples initiative. He will share his experience of life in the Dominican Order, and the journey that led him to respond to God's call.

The evening includes time for questions and discussion, followed by refreshments and fellowship.

All are very welcome.

FAQ

What is the Dominican Order?
The Dominicans, formally the Order of Preachers, are a Catholic religious order founded by St Dominic in 1216, known for their dedication to preaching, study, and teaching. Members live in community under religious vows, distinct from diocesan priests who serve within a particular diocese.

Is this event only for those discerning a vocation?
No. It's open to anyone curious about religious life, or who would simply like an evening of reflection and conversation. You don't need to be considering a vocation yourself.

What does "OP" mean after Father John's name?
OP stands for Ordinis Praedicatorum — Order of Preachers — the formal name of the Dominican Order. Many religious orders use post-nominal letters this way to indicate their order.
