Plainchant is one of the oldest forms of Christian prayer: music stripped back to voice, breath, and text, shaped by centuries of worship. It sounds difficult. It isn't.
Glossop Catholic Parishes is hosting a practical workshop exploring plainchant, how it differs from modern singing styles, the basic principles of singing chant, and how it lives in Catholic worship today. There will be plenty of opportunities to sing.
No previous knowledge of plainchant is required. No Latin is required. You don't need to be a particularly good singer. You need to bring a pen or pencil, some water, and an hour and three quarters of curiosity.

No. The workshop is open to anyone curious about plainchant, whatever their level of singing experience.

No Latin knowledge is required.
Do I need to have any knowledge of plainchant?
No, the workshop starts from the beginning.

What should I bring?
A pen or pencil, and some water. Everything else is provided.
Is there an age limit?
People aged twelve or under must be accompanied by someone aged 18 or above, who must supervise the child throughout. This event operates in compliance with the safeguarding policy of the Diocese of Nottingham.
