Ralph Sherwin was a priest from Derbyshire who was martyred for his faith in 1581. He was canonised as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, and he is the patron saint of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi-Academy Trust. Every year, the Diocese of Nottingham gathers to honour him and this year, Bishop Patrick will celebrate Mass.
The Diocesan Rodsley Pilgrimage Mass in honour of Saint Ralph Sherwin takes place at 1.00pm on Tuesday 30 June 2026 at St Mary's Church, Derby. Parishioners from across the Diocese are warmly welcome to attend.
No booking is required. Simply come.

Who is Saint Ralph Sherwin?
Ralph Sherwin was born in Rodsley, Derbyshire, in 1550. He was ordained a Catholic priest during the Reformation, returned to England to minister to Catholics at a time when it was illegal to do so, and was executed at Tyburn in 1581. He was canonised by Pope Paul VI in 1970 as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. He is the patron of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi-Academy Trust in the Diocese of Nottingham.
Do I need to book a place?
No. The Mass is open to all parishioners across the Diocese, simply arrive at St Mary's Church, Derby by 1.00pm.
