If you long to visit Lourdes this year but haven’t booked a ferry or flight, distance need not be an obstacle.

"...a big thank you to you and all the people for setting up the website for all of us at home to be able to follow the Pilgrimage, what an honour it was just wonderful seeing you all and remembering all the lovely people that have now gone to Heaven that were so faithful to Lourdes." - 2023 Lourdes From Home Participant

Thanks to the fruits of last year, Nottingham Diocese is once again launching, ‘Lourdes from Home,’ an initiative which enables everyone to go on pilgrimage to one of the most beloved and revered pilgrimage sites, in the world.

The diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place between July 14 and 18 this year, and while many people from across the diocese will go there in person, everyone else is encouraged to participate by registering for Lourdes From Home.

Following registration, Lourdes From Home Pilgrims, have the option of receiving a pilgrim’s pack in the post, which costs £10. The pack includes gifts and resources such as a Robin Hood hat, rosary beads and prayer booklet. A physical candle will also be lit for them in Lourdes grotto, for all their intentions.

Everyone who registers, regardless of whether they pay for a pilgrim’s pack or not, will be able to submit confidential prayer intentions which will be taken to Lourdes, and they will also receive daily emails, updating on them on what is happening each day, with pictures from the day before.

All virtual pilgrims will be able to access all the Lourdes services online, thereby joining the rest of their diocesan family in prayer and Bishop Patrick McKinney will offer Mass for all online pilgrims.

“Lourdes from Home was a huge success last year, with around 40 people signing up, including myself who couldn't travel due to pregnancy.” said Director of Communications, Naomi Archer-Roberts. “It is our constant prayer that we might find ever new ways, to ensure that everyone can participate in the life of the Church, regardless of their circumstances.

"The digital world in which we live, has gifted us with so many opportunities for connection, through the power of technology. Lourdes from Home is a creative and inspiring means of encountering the love of Christ, which is so tangible when we visit Lourdes, be it virtually or in person.”
