For ninety years, a small red box has sat in Catholic homes across England and Wales — collecting spare coins and quiet prayers for some of the most vulnerable communities in the world. It is one of the most recognisable objects in Catholic life, and one of the simplest acts of mission there is.
This September, Missio and the Mill Hill Missionaries mark ninety years of the Red Box with a special celebratory Mass. Bishop Patrick will celebrate Mass at St Teresa's Church, Aspley, Nottingham, on Saturday 19th September 2026 at 12 noon. Refreshments will be available in the parish hall afterwards.

What is the Missio Red Box?
The Missio Red Box is a small collection box that has been placed in Catholic homes across England and Wales since 1936. It gathers spare coins and prayers to support Missio's work funding vulnerable communities and mission projects around the world. It is one of the longest-running grassroots mission initiatives in the Catholic Church in this country.
What is Missio?
Missio is the Catholic Church's official charity for overseas mission, working in partnership with the Vatican's Pontifical Mission Societies. The Mill Hill Missionaries are one of the missionary congregations that work alongside Missio.
