Mission Together: Introducing Synodality to our parishes

Pope Leo is asking everyone, all the baptised, to build new relationships in the Church. Not just clergy. Not just parish leaders. Everyone. Including people who usually just go to Mass. Including people who haven't been for years.

This day is about what that actually means in practice.

Mission Together is a workshop introducing synodality to parish life, led by Dr Austen Ivereigh, biographer of Pope Francis and invited expert at the Synod on Synodality. It explores how parishes can become genuinely listening communities: places where the voice of the Holy Spirit is heard together, and where everyone helps shape the path forward.

You don't need a position of responsibility to come. You don't need to be a confident speaker. You need to be willing to listen — and to be heard.

Bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee are provided. Any surplus from donations goes to Caritas Nottingham.

FAQ

What is synodality?
Synodality comes from the Greek for "walking together." It describes a way of being Church in which all the baptised — not just those in leadership — are invited to listen to one another, discern together, and help shape the community's path forward. Pope Francis described it as "a way of being which God is asking of the Church."

Who is Dr Austen Ivereigh?
Dr Austen Ivereigh is a Catholic writer and commentator, best known as the biographer of Pope Francis. He was an invited expert at the Synod on Synodality and is one of the leading voices on what synodality means for the everyday life of the Church.

Is this only for parish leaders and clergy?
No. The workshop is explicitly for everyone — whether you hold a position of leadership or responsibility, or whether you usually just go to Mass, or haven't been for years. Pope Leo's call is addressed to all the baptised.

Can someone come if they're not Catholic, or are unsure about their faith?
Yes. Even if you don't participate in a parish, you are welcome.

What if I can't afford the £20 donation?
Please come anyway and give what you can, however small.

Can I come on my own?
Yes, come alone, or even better, bring friends and fellow parishioners.

Is the venue accessible?
The Frassati Centre has wheelchair access and amplification, but no hearing loop.

Is there parking?
There is no parking on site. Please come by public transport or use a nearby car park. The venue is at 45 Wellington Street, Leicester LE1 6HW.

What should I bring?
